Far too often on the path of self-discovery we’re tempted to take someone else’s word on what composes the self.

Astrology is no exception — market forces have primed our expectation for self-discovery as a consumptive act.

“Tell me who I am. What I am. How to be!”

But as Socrates demonstrated, we often learn best by questioning. As it requires the struggle of the questioning & the wrestling of the answer to pierce our cognitive bias & expectations.

Whether you believe in astrology or not, it’s a constantly moving system of symbols that have been crafted to explore most of human life.

If nothing else, it is a powerful meditation technique generating an infinite set of prompts to question who you are — helping to fulfill your quest of self-discovery.

The following is a meditation on Venus. It can be used to explore your birth chart as well as transits or progressions. You could even go through all the questions to explore the fullness of love & connection.

What Venus Symbolizes

Venus in astrology is the means by which you connect, attract & delight — she’s your satisfaction, the way you receive everything good in life.

Spiritual & magic traditions would say that a relationship, understanding or embodiment of Venus makes for healthier relationships, self-love & manifesting.

In the Tarot, she is associated with the Empress, birthing new things into the world from a position of power.

In the Orphic hymns, she is foundational to the world — responsible for life throughout nature via the act of sex & coupling — a force that causes the world to come together.

Tis thine the world with harmony to join, for all things spring from thee, O pow’r divine.
The triple Fates [Moirai] are rul’d by thy decree, and all productions yield alike to thee:
Whate’er the heav’ns, encircling all contain, earth fruit-producing, and the stormy main. . .

— Orphic Hymns translated by Thomas Taylor 1792
