It’s funny because a friend just convinced me to do a writing challenge and one of the articles I wrote is about how unnatural it is.

Still, I think it has its merits. I hear you in wanting a better-finished product but I personally want to break away from thinking of writing as a “product.”

Throughout time there have been musicians, poets, philosophers, and many others who perform publically as a means to increase their craft.

It’s how we get over our perfectionism and develop greater resolve. When I look at the early work of some of my favorite authors it’s pretty sloppy but they got it published, learned from it, and kept going.

It’s a way of personal development. Personally, I think the culture that we have created around “do it in private until it’s worth my consumption,” is stifling a lot of growth.

Not to mention reinforcing consumerism, perfectionism, and inferiority complexes.

I do really appreciate your suggestions though for how to improve your writing and in an alternative challenge. A lot of people critique without giving alternatives.
