9 Tricks to End Your Insomnia.

Four of which you probably haven’t heard of.

I didn’t fall asleep until 7 am today.

It’s been my first bought of insomnia in a long time and it makes me want to share the tips I learned that have helped me in the past.

None of which I used last night of course.

Sometimes the psyche just needs to see the sunrise but for the rest of the times, I know these things help as they’ve taken me from routine insomnia to once or twice a year.

Vetiver

I had been sleepless for a week when my partner’s family suggested I use some vetiver essential oil. To be honest I wasn’t sold on essential oils at the time. Marijuana and Ambien couldn’t knock me out, what was an oil on my skin going to do?

Turns out it can do a lot. I slept like a baby that night and vetiver has helped me ever since. This is my number one go-to for sleeping and nine times out of ten it works wonders.

I just rub some behind my ears and on my feet. Not the best smelling stuff but it is highly effective at calming the body.

Lavender

I was surprised to find in my psych classes that lavender is used in a lot of tests to relax people.

It was one thing for my friends to recommend an oil and find that it works for me, it was another thing to be reading through psych experiments and realize scientists put this to use with documented results.

I throw some on my wrists and pillow at night to help calm the mind and body.

Lithium

My naturopath recommended 5 mg of lithium orotate and I was like “no way, that’s what made grandma go crazy.”

My grandma had been cycled through a host of psych meds when she hit a long depression streak and hasn’t been the same since. Lithium was especially rough as it made her manic and in her attempt to go for a drive, after months of barely moving, she fell and damaged a lot of her face.

So I resisted using this. My doctor, however, sat me down and helped me think it through. Pharmaceutical doses of lithium start at 500 mg.
